Patchwork Chardonnay 2023
100% Chardonnay from the tiny growing region of Bugey, a region that sits between Savoie and Jura. This one hits immediately jumping from the glass with all things citrus, peaches and cream. On the palate the wine is first all textured and mouth-coating before a welcome lick of acidity zips into the finish. Hazy, textured and just a little bit wild.
Made with grapes from many different micro-parcels planted over 5 hectares. Each parcel with it's own soil type and exposure gives a real snapshot of the growing region – a Patchwork cuvée!
After hand-harvesting, the grapes are brought to the cellar for direct-pressing. Fermentation takes place initially in stainless steel vats before half of the juice is separated and aged in old oak barrels (the other half remains in stainless steel vat).
The wood lends body and a soft, creamy texture to the finished wine, whilst the stainless-steel preserves that fresh, bright citrus fruit profile. The resulting wines is wonderfully balanced and gives both refreshing, zingy fruit and a soft, creamy complexity.
